Tooth Bone Regeneration
After tooth extraction, the alveolar bone that supports the tooth resorbs over time. This resorption results in a loss of alveolar bone volume, as shown in this clinical example of a missing upper right central incisor. The buccolingual bone width is significantly reduced, which conflicts with the fundamental dental implant requirement of placing the implant in the correct three-dimensional position determined by the restoration. When alveolar bone resorption occurs, it is often necessary to increase the amount of bone to ensure that the implant can be properly placed and fully embedded in the bone. This module will introduce a specific bone augmentation technique called guided bone regeneration (GBR).
